Some of the best writing tips I have heard have come from published and unpublished authors. The absolutely best one, that pops up from both sides with such frequency you could almost mistake it for a mantra, is this:
No matter how bad it is, it is still written and now leaps and bounds beyond the accomplishments of the people that say, “I’ve always wanted to write a book/short story/poem/novella”
I heard a Ted talk about writing that had one piece of advice I hadn’t heard before. The advice struck me as such an absolute truth, that I am surprised I didn’t realize it before.
Stories are not written. They are re-written.
